Tournament Rules
The rules for 3on3 and 4on4 streetball are pretty much the same as for a normal basketball match with two main exceptions:
there’s no referee, and it’s on a half court. If a referee is needed the 2 teams that need the referee will each
pay $15.00 for referee.
So
to make it clear, some additional rules are listed below:
•
Make it/take it – if you score,
you get the ball back and check it at the top of the key.
•
Offence calls the fouls – don’t
be a wuss though – it’s streetball, some contact is always inevitable. After a foul check it up top again.
•
Jump balls go to D – defenders
get rewarded for hustle by any jump ball going to them at the top of the key.
•
Out-of-bounds-check – at
top of the key.
•
Subs – can make a sub if you have
possession at the top of the key. Check it up again after the sub’s been made.
•
Possession - if defence gains possession
before the ball hits the ring(rim) then they can shoot without having to take it outside of the 3-point line. If the offence
has put up a shot and it’s hit the ring(rim) and defence then gains possession, they have to take it out past the 3-point
line.
•
Match length - each match lasts for
20 minutes or to 21 points which ever comes first with five minutes at the start to warm up on court.
•
Scoring - each basket is 1 point in
the single-sex and Kid’s competitions, 2 points for a three pointer. In the mixed the scores are the same, except each
women’s basket counts as 2 and a three pointer is 3.
•
Ball size - mixed, men’s, women’s
and Kid’s teams will play with a Standard size Basketball.
•
Scoring - games will be scored
by a score keeper from another team or a rep from Prowlers Sports. It also goes without saying that there’s no 3-second
or 24-second violation.
Everything else is as normal basketball rules allow.
GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION
We reserve the right to disqualify any Player
or team for infractions of the following policies:
• Use of Illegal Players - The four players listed on the team roster are
the only ones eligible to compete on that team.
• False Information - Information provided to us on your entry form is
the basis of our division breakdowns. Any false information is ultimately the responsibility of the team captain.
• Unnecessary Roughness - Any behavior deemed inappropriate in tournament
play by the court monitor at your court. Players/Teams may be disqualified for one game or for the entire tournament as determined
by a Court Monitor Supervisor/Court Monitor Chair.
• Threatening Speech or Profane Language - Use of profane or aggressive
speech with any tournament official, volunteer, other players or spectators, will not be tolerated, on or off the court. Trash
talking on the court is grounds for unsportsmanlike fouls and possible dismissal from the tournament.
• Excessive Complaining - If you have complaints about a specific aspect
of a game, first bring your complaints to the Court Monitor, if you do not feel your complaint was adequately handled you
may ask for a Court Monitor Supervisor to intervene. Once the Court Monitor Supervisor has made a decision, the issue is considered
final and play will resume. Complaints should be handled on the court.
• Alcohol/Illegal Drugs - Use of alcohol or illegal drugs by players or
spectators during the event is strictly forbidden.
• Weapons - No weapons, concealed or otherwise, are allowed on the premises.
• Abuse of Foul Rules - Blatantly calling inaccurate fouls/violations to
benefit your team. This behavior will result in an unsportsmanlike foul, and if behavior persists, disqualification.
•
Unsportmanlike Conduct - Excessive complaining
to the Court Monitor or Tournament Supervisor will result in an Unsportsmanlike Conduct Foul and one free throw plus possession
for the opposing team. Continuation of such conduct may result in forfeiture and dismissal from the tournament.
Trash
talk will not be tolerated.
ALL Court
Monitors, Supervisors and Tournament personnel have the authority to call unsportsmanlike fouls, disqualify players, or use
any means to control the game. Any player disqualified from a game may only be reinstated at the sole discretion of a Court
Monitor Chairperson. Any player ejected from the tournament will be prohibited from further play in any tournament game(s)
including any and all teams under which the player is registered. All player bracelets will be removed, accordingly. Ejected
players that further attempt to disrupt the tournament risk arrest by the Louisville Police Department. Ejected players are
not eligible for a refund of their registration fees.
The most important
rule for the day is to have a good time, and make sure that everyone else does too. So no matter what the rule book says,
good sportsmanship should always come first.

The players participating
will call all fouls. COOPERATION is EXPECTED, but if rough play and/or other controversy occurs among players of either team,
the Court Monitor will call all members of both teams together and issue a verbal warning that another such occurrence will
cause a halt in play until a Tournament Supervisor can be brought in. When such action is necessary, normal time limits prevail
in ending the game no matter how long it takes for a Supervisor to arrive on the scene.
If a Tournament Supervisor stops the play, they will determine the outcome for each team committing
the infraction.
